ABILENE, Texas – Howard Payne University's
Javaris Jones scores a season high 18 points in a 77-58 Yellow Jacket loss at McMurry University Saturday afternoon at Kimbrell Arena.
The Yellow Jackets would shot just 33.9% (21 of 62) from the field and 50% (9 of 18) from the free-throw line in the game. McMurry held the rebounding advantage 47-37 in the game.
Leading 26-25 at the half, Howard Payne started the second half flat and McMurry led 45-32 midway through. The War Hawks extended their lead to as much as 26 going on to the 77-58 final.
Javaris Jones led HPU with 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting from behind the arc.
Timothy Aguero had 13 points with six rebounds and four assists.
Shadd Cole added 10 points and three assists.
Thomas Bingham and
Talen Davis each had seven rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 1-8 in American Southwest Conference play and 3-15 overall. McMurry is 4-6 in league action and 7-12 on the year. The Jackets will play next at home on Thursday versus Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:30 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
