BROWNOOD, Texas – Howard Payne University's
Payge Grable scored a season high 22 points in a 74-69 loss for the Lady Jackets to #7/9 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
Down by as much as 16 points minutes into the fourth, Howard Payne rallied to make it a three-point ball game with just under one minute to play. Two
Chelsi Woodard free-throws with 52 seconds made the score 70-67 UMHB.
The Lady Jackets would not be able to get any other field goals to fall the rest of the game and UMHB held on for the 74-69 final.
Both teams shot over 37 free-throw in the game, HPU 32 of 37 and UMHB 30 of 46. Four players fouled out total in the game, three for Howard Payne.
Payge Grable scored a game and season high 22 points sparked by 4 of 7 shooting from behind the arc and 6 of 6 shooting from the line.
Chelsey Harris had 13 points in limited time due to foul trouble.
Salina Ali added 12 points and
Anastasia Willis had seven rebounds and four assists.
UMHB was led by Kendall Rollins with 16 points, Hannah Holt had 12 and Aubrie Elliott added 10 points.
Howard Payne is now 6-13 overall and 3-7 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB stands at 18-1 overall and 10-0 in league play. The Lady Jackets will take on Concordia University Texas on Saturday at 1:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
