SEGUIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team started the 2019-2020 regular season with a 70-63 victory at Texas Lutheran University Friday evening.
After the two Howard Payne exhibition games last week, the Lady Jackets were ready to go for real and held Texas Lutheran to just 31.8% shooting in the game, 16.7% from behind the arc in the 70-63 win.
It was a 26 point second quarter and a 17 point third by the Lady Jackets that allowed them to build a 12 point lead (58-46) going into the final quarter.
HPU's
Anastasia Willis led with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Payge Grable followed with 13 points and and
Lily Janek added 11 points.
Bria Neal had six points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench and
Delaney Ingram grabbed six boards with two blocks.
TLU was led by Tara Molina with 14 points, six assists and five steals followed by Morgan Rodriguez with 10 points.
Howard Payne starts the season win a win and Texas Lutheran falls to 0-3 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play next on Tuesday, Nov. 19th at Division I Abilene Christian University at 5:30 pm and then at home on Saturday, Nov. 23rd versus Southwestern University at 1:00 pm.
