ALPINE, Texas - Howard Payne University's
Chelsey Harris scored a season high 25 points in a 100-75 loss to the University of St. Thomas on day two of the ASC-SCAC Crossover hosted by Sul Ross State University.
The Lady Jackets would struggle from the perimeter hitting only 3 of 17 from long range. With Howard Payne making 44.3% of its shots from the field, it was St. Thomas's 59.7% from the field and 14 of 26 (53.8%) three-pointers that was a major factor in the game.
Down by as much as 17 in the second quarter, the Lady Jackets made a push to start the third quarter and cut the lead to five, 50-45 on a layup by
Delaney Ingram. That would be as close as the Lady Jackets got in the 100-75 final.
Chelsey led HPU with a season high 25 points, she was 6 of 6 at the free-throw line and also grabbed six rebounds.
Bria Neal followed with 13 points and
Anastasia Willis added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Mallory Garcia was 2 of 3 from long range off the bench for HPU..
St. Thomas was led by Sheridan Hopkins with 28 points followed by Bresha Orange with 24 points.
Howard Payne is now 3-3 overall on the year and St. Thomas stands at 4-2 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next on the road in Santa Cruz, CA versus the University of Puget Sound on Sat., Dec. 7th at 7:00 pm central and on Sun., Dec. 8th versus the Univ. of California-Santa Cruz at 5:00 pm central.
