GEORGETOWN, Texas - Howard Payne University's Jase Miguez scored a career high 44 points in an 88-78 loss to Southwestern University Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Down by 30 points in the second half, the Yellow Jackets rallied to cut the Southwestern lead to seven, 83-76, with 1:47 left in the game, all sparked by Jase Miguez' 44 point performance, 

With both teams committing 17 turnovers, Howard Payne led in points in the paint 40-24 but Southwestern would double the amount of free-throw attempts of the Jackets 24-12 in the game.

HPU's Miguez was 18 of 25 from the field, 4 of 9 from behind the arc and 4 of 5 from the line. He scored 25 of his 44 points in the second half and also grabbed team high eight rebounds and four steals. Jaylan Ballou followed with eight points and four assists.

Southwestern was led by Brandon Alexander with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Hicks followed with 19 points.

Howard Payne is now 1-5 overall on the year and Southwestern stands at 4-3 overall. The Jackets will now travel to Louisiana College on Monday fro a non-conference game starting at 5:30 pm.
