Brownwood, Texas – After jumping out to a 2-0 series lead after Friday's double headers, Howard Payne sent Louisiana College home winless after a 17-5 thrashing in the final game of the weekend.
An error filled game for the Wildcats gave HPU a lot of chances to put up runs.
LC took an early 1-0 lead that didn't last very long. Especially after a 6 run 2nd for the Jackets. RJ Roberts crossed the plate first on an error, then back to back to back singles by Noah Payne, Joshua Gerig and Ty McCain plated 4 more.
The Wildcats battled back to make it a two run game after a big 3rd inning, but the HPU would pull away after a 7 run 6th inning.
RJ Roberts and Nolyn Box led the Jackets with 3 hits apiece. Noah Payne led the team in RBIs with 3, with Ty McCain, RJ Roberts, Rylee McGee and Cliff Lunceford all adding 2 RBIs of their own.
Preston Newman got the start for the Jackets tossing 3.2 innings giving up 5 hits and 4 runs, 3 earned, while striking out 3. Graham White earned the win going 2.1 and giving up 1 earned run while striking out 1. Johnny Cravey also threw 1 perfect inning.
Howard Payne sweeps the series to improve to 6-7 overall, 3-0 in ASC play while LC draws even at 4-4, 0-3 in ASC play. The Jackets will be back home next weekend seeking to stay perfect in conference play as they kick off a three game series with Mary-Hardin Baylor. 1st pitch will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 1st at Don Sheppard Park.
