BROWNWOOD - The Howard Payne University men's soccer team earned their first American Southwest Conference win on the season with a 1-0 triumph over the University of The Ozarks earlier this afternoon.
HPU freshman
Alexander Paz was able to find the back of the goal in the 34th minute of the match for his first conference goal, third of the season.Â
The Yellow Jacket defense held strong despite being outshot 22-13 overall and 7-6 in shots on goal to give Howard Payne the 1-0 conference victory.Â
Sophomore forward
Angel Rivas led the game with three shots, two shots on goal for HPU.
Junior HPU goalkeeper
Andrew Hackney played the full 90 minutes for the Yellow Jackets, recording seven saves.
Howard Payne is now 3-6 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference play, while the University of the Ozarks stands at 5-2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets will hit the road Thursday Oct 3rd to play in a 7:30 pm match against Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.
