LONGVIEW, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team dropped a conference game at LeTourneau University 107-87 Saturday afternoon.
After shooting 60% from the field in the first half, Howard Payne cooled off in the second despite shooting 11 of 23 (47.8%) from behind the arc as a team.
Both teams traded the lead throughout the first half with LeTourneau taking 52-46 advantage going into the halftime break. LeTourneau from that point slowly built its lead and claimed the game 107-87 in the end.
Howard Payne committed 23 turnovers on the night and LeTourneau would finish with 15.
Howard Payne was led by
Jase Miguez with 22 points followed by
Jacob Smith with a career high 21 points and three steals.
Joshua Taylor added 11 points and
Kyle Kildare ended with nine points and was 4 of 4 from the field.
Nate West led Letu with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. Korrin Taylor had 19 points and Andrew Eberhardt and John Argue with added 18 points.
Howard Payne is now 1-15 overall and 0-7 in American Southwest Conference action. LeTourneau stands at 11-4 overall and 4-2 in league play. The Jackets will play next on home on Thur., Jan. 23rd versus the University of the Ozarks at 7:30 pm.
