ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team scored 48 second half points in a 79-64 victory at Sur Ross State University Saturday afternoon.
Down 32-31 at the half, the Lady Jackets outscored the Lobos 27-13 in the third and 21-19 in the fourth sparked by 57.8% shooting in the third, 52% for the half.
Howard Payne also out rebounded Sul Ross 42-39 and forced 19 Lobo turnovers while dominating points in the paint 48-14 in the game.
It was balanced scoring for HPU with five posting double digits points.
Bria Neal led with 13 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.
Chelsey Harris had 13 points and six rebounds.
Lily Janek had 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Julissa Ibarra had 11 points and
Catlyn Ward scored 10 off the bench.
Salina Ali had a game high six assists.
Sul Ross was led by Jackie Saucedo with 13 points and eight rebounds followed by Kaylee Martinez and Jocelyne Rogue with 11 points each.
Howard Payne is now 8-11 overall and 4-6 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross falls to 5-14 overall and 3-14 in league play. The Lady Jackets will be on the road next week playing at Concordia Texas in Austin, Texas on Thursday at 5:30 pm and at Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
