BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team defeated McMurry University 76-66 Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
With four Howard Payne players scoring double-digit, it was
Chelsey Harris leading Lady Jackets with 16 points on 6 of 11 shooting from the field.
Bria Neal followed with 15 points,
Salina Ali had 14 points and seven rebounds, and
Anastasia Willis added 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Trailing by four at the break, the Lady Jackets outscored the War Hawks by five in the third quarter and seven in the fourth while holding McMurry to under 40% shooting in the second half.
The Howard Payne defense was solid for the second time this week forcing 20 McMurry turnovers leading to 11 fast break points.
McMurry was led by Destiny Matthews with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Skler Reyna had 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Jackets now stand at 10-13 overall and 6-8 in American Southwest Conference play. McMurry falls to 9-14 overall and 2-12 in league action. Howard Payne will play next at home on Thursday, Feb. 20th versus Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5:30 pm.
