BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team gave American Southwest Conference West Division leader Mary Hardin Baylor a scare Thursday evening but fell in the end 77-64 Thursday evening.
Chelsey Harris led Howard Payne with 20 points followed by
Bria Neal with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Lily Janek and
Salina Ali each added eight points.
Anastasia Willis would also grab seven rebounds for the Lady Jackets.
With the Lady Jackets leading 19-13 at the end of the first quarter UNHB pushed back to tie the game at 28-28 at the half. UMHB then outscore the Lady Jackets slightly in the third and fourth quarters to secure the 77-64 final.
UMHB won the rebounding battle 40-33 and the Lady Jackets forcing 17 UMHB turnovers.
Kendall Rollins led UMHB with 27 points on 6 of 7 three-point shooting. Allaira Jones added 19 points.
Howard Payne is now 10-14 overall and 6-9 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB stands at 20-4 overall and 13-2 in league play. Having secured a spot in the ASC tournament, the Lady Jackets will finish the regular season at home on Saturday versus Concordia Texas at 1:00 om. The HPU seniors will be recognized after the game.
