Brownwood, Texas - The Howard Payne Baseball Club opened up a conference series with a 6-4 win on Friday afternoon versus the visiting LeTourneau YellowJackets.
RJ Roberts got the scoring started in the 1st with a three run sky scraper over the left field fence that scored Jonathan McKay and Noah Coronado. In the 2nd, Joey Villerreal poked a ball down the right field line to score Daniel Paleo. Carson Wert later scored that same inning, and so did Villarreal on a wild pitch.
LETU would scrape across one in the 3rd, and three in the 6th, but the final would sit at 6-4.
Joey Villarreal lead all Jacket hitters with two hits and RJ Roberts powered the offense with his three run home run.
Xavier Haines started this contest for Howard Payne lasting seven innings and giving up four runs, three earned, on nine hits while striking out five. Bryant Chambers threw a scoreless 8th, striking out one, and Kory Owens slammed the door in the 9th to gain his 2nd save of the year,
The Jackets come back to even at 6-6, 3-1 in ASC play, and will be back at home again tomorrow as they close out the double header versus LeTourneau. The first pitch will be at 12:00 pm.
