Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 80-52 Saturday evening in conference action at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Michael House and
Tyrell Thompson led the Yellow Jackets with 14 and 10 points respectively. Thompson also grabbed a team high eight rebounds. HPU's
Jaylan Ballou added a game high five steals along with eight points.
The Yellow Jackets started the game strong but a run by Mary Hardin-Baylor midway through the first half led to a 42-28 lead for the Crusaders. Neither team shot the ball well in the first half, 30.5% for the Jackets, 39.4% for the Cru.
With 22.8% shooting from the field by HPU, it was all UMHB in the second half on the way to the 82-50 final.
UMHB was led by Josiah Johnson with 29 points and nine rebounds. Carson Hammond followed with 18 points.
HPU is now 0-13 overall and 0-9 in American Southwest Conference, UMHB stands at 11-3 overall and 8-0 in league play. The Jackets will hit the road next week with games at McMurry on Thursday at 7:30 pm and Hardin-Simmons on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
