AUSTIN, Texas- The Howard Payne University women's basketball team took down conference opponent Concordia University Texas 65-55 Thursday evening.

Amanda Turpin came off the bench to lead the Lady Jackets with a game-high 17 points. The Howard Payne Defense held Concordia to just 20% (5 of 25) shooting in the second half and 32.7% (18 of 55) for the game. 

The first half was a close battle. The Lady Jackets had a four-point 14-10 lead after one quarter of play. The Tornadoes had a 23 point second quarter to take the one-point 33-32 lead heading into the third quarter.

The Lady Jackets had a big third quarter. HPU trailed by one when they went on a 10-0 run, making the score 49-39. Howard Payne won the third quarter 21-10 to take a 10 point lead going into the final quarter. 

Howard Payne and Concordia scored 12 points each in the third quarter to give the Lady Jackets the 65-55 victory over the Tornadoes.

Amanda Turpin led the lady jackets in points with 17 followed by Bria Neal with 14. Chelsey Harris and Bria Neal had six rebounds each. Salina Ali and Mallory Garcia both added three steals.

Falyn Taylor led the Tornadoes with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Howard Payne improves to 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the American Southwest Conference and moves back into second place in the standings. Concordia falls to 2-7 overall and 2-7 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will finish out the regular season on Saturday March 6th versus Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas at 1 pm.
