BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University softball team took down conference opponent University of the Ozarks 10-0 and 5-4 on Friday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.
The Lady Jackets out hit the Eagles 23-9 in the doubleheader, which included six doubles and two home runs.Â
Game One
Howard Payne won the first game of the afternoon 10-0 in five innings.Â
The Lady Jackets had a big first inning, scoring five runs. Howard Payne scored their first run on a
Kayla Hill single.
Ragen Noriega highlighted the inning by hitting a three-run home run.Â
Aurura Luera scored a single run home run in the second inning, making the score 6-0, heading into the third. The Lady Jackets scored four runs in the third inning. The Eagles were unable to get on the board, making the final score 10-0 in five innings.
Tori Muro went 3-for-3 at the plate with 1 RBI and two runs scored.
Ragen Noriega went 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI and two runs scored.
HPU's
Tia Campos pitched all five innings and recorded the win allowing no runs on two hits
Game Two
The Lady Jackets won the second game of the afternoon 5-4 in an extra-inning thriller.
Ozarks got on the board first by scoring a single-run home run in the second inning. The Lady Jackets trailed the Eagles 4-1, heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Howard Payne scored three runs in the seventh to force extra innings.
Madison Love singled to right field to score
Ragen Noriega and win the game 5-4 in eight innings.
Hannah Morales came in to pitch in the eighth inning allowing no runs on one hit, and recorded the win.
Howard Payne improves to 7-2 on the season and 4-1 in the American Southwest Conference. Ozarks fall to 0-4 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. The two teams will finish out the series on Saturday, March 6th at 11 am.
