BELTON, Texas- The Howard Payne University softball team dropped the first two games 7-0 and 8-2 in the three-game series versus the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor on Friday afternoon.
Game One
The Lady Jackets got off to a rough start, allowing two runs in the first innings. Howard Payne was unable to get on the board, dropping the game 7-0.
Alyssa Corpus went 1-for-2 at the plate for the Lady Jackets.
Tia Campos (6-7) recorded the loss pitching two innings and allowing three runs on three hits.
Hannah Morales came in relief, pitching four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.
Game Two
The Lady Jackets got down early, allowing seven runs in the first two innings. Howard Payne scored their first run of the afternoon in the third inning when
Samantha Euresti scored on an error by the third baseman.
The Lady Jackets scored again in the sixth inning on a
Zaleigh Perez single that plated
Alyssa Corpus. HPU was unable to score again, dropping the game 8-2.

Alyssa Corpus, and
Zaleigh Perez recorded one hit each for the Lady Jackets.
Bree Cason (4-3) recorded the loss pitching six innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits.Â
Howard Payne falls to 12-12 on the season and 7-10 in conference play. Mary-Hardin Baylor improves to 16-11 on the season and 10-7 in conference play. The two teams will finish out the weekend series tomorrow at 12pm.
