BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team was led by Bria Neal with a game-high 25 points in a 77-53 conference loss at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon.
Along with HPU's Bria Neal's 25 points, she pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while going 7 of 10 from the free-throw line.
UMHB won the rebounding battle 58-37 due to a size advantage. Though the Lady Jackets forced 16 UMHB turnovers, HPU shot just 29% from the field.
Scoring single digits in the first two quarters, the Lady Jackets would outscore the Cru 22-14 in the fourth.
Following Neal for HPU was Amanda Turpin with 10 points. Salina Ali added seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists.
UMHB was led by Aja Holmes with 15 points and Catherine Kaiser with 10 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 3-10 overall and 1-8 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB stands at 11-2 overall and 8-1 in league play. The Lady Jackets will have a non-conference game at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas at 5:30 pm and then back at home on Thursday at 5:30 pm versus Hardin-Simmons University.
