AUSTIN, Texas – Howard Payne University's
Asia Mitchell shined in a 72-67 loss to Concordia University Texas Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action.
HPU's
Asia Mitchell had a career day scoring 19 points with a game-high 12 rebounds. She was 6 of 11 from the field and 6 of 8 at the free-throw line.
Trynadee Greenwell followed Mitchell with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Bria Neal had 16 points and nine rebounds.
Anna Beamesderfer had eight points and
Brenna Welsh dished out a game-high four assists.
Down 17-7 after the first quarter, the Lady Jackets used a 10-0 run to start the second quarter to get back in the game.
Howard Payne outscored CTX 20-12 in the second but trailed the 29-27 at the halftime break. The Lady Jackets shot 61.5% from the field in the second period.
CTX extended its lead to 52-39 at the end of the third with 50% shooting from the field. The Lady Jackets made a late game run sparked by great play from
Asia Mitchell cutting the game to 70-65 with a minute to play.
The Tornados were led by Chelsea Cogborn with 22 points, Havyn Perez had 13 points, and Bailey Andrews finished with 12.
Howard Payne is now 2-10 overall and 0-6 in American Southwest Conference play. Stands at 4-5 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Lady Jackets' next game won't be till Jan. 5th at home versus conference opponent East Texas Baptist at 5:30 pm
