BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's tennis team dropped two non-conference matches this weekend to the University of the Southwest 6-3 and Western New Mexico University 9-0.
USW Match
The Yellow Jackets started the USW match taking two of three doubles points. The HPU number two doubles team of Â
Logan Knight and
Nicolas Gates won 8-3 and the number three team of Â
Christian Fernandez and
Landon Ferree won a thrilling tiebreaker 8-7(8-6).
In single action the Jackets were able to pick up Gates' number four singles point 6-4, 5-7, 10-5. HPU missed winning the match narrowly dropping the number two singles 7-5, 6-3 and the number three singles point 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
WNMU Match
The Jackets started the match dropping the doubles points 8-1, 8-2, 8-1.
Falling the the match overall 9-0,
Logan Knight's number two singles match was the closest falling 6-4, 6-3.
The Howard Payne men are now 1-3 overall and will play next on Feb. 25th at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas. It will be a 12 noon start time.
