BROWNWOOD, Texas -- The Howard Payne University volleyball team knocked off the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls 3-1 (25-17, 16-25, 25-21, 28-26) Monday at home at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The win boosted the Lady Jackets' record to 10-8 overall and 4-6 in ASC action.
The Lady Jackets were led by a double-double from Brylee Awbrey, who registered 16 kills and 15 digs on the day. Rylee McAlexander also added 12 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kassidy Johnson chipped in with 17 digs to go with two blocks from McAlexander.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Jackets grabbed control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to win the first set 25-17. Howard Payne led by as many as nine points at 22-13 before closing out the set. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Howard Payne then fell in the second set 25-16, evening things at a set each. Howard Payne trailed by as many as nine points as Hardin-Simmons grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was tied up five times before the Cowgirls took over the lead.
SET 3 | Howard Payne then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Lady Jackets grabbed control of the set early when the score was 6-5 and never trailed to win 25-21. Howard Payne led by as many as nine points at 17-8 before closing out the stanza.
SET 4 | Howard Payne kept the momentum going, claiming the match win with a 28-26 fourth-set victory. A strong showing on the attacking end led the Lady Jackets to victory in the set. Howard Payne registered a .318 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set win. The Lady Jackets opened up a 15-9 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
The Lady Jackets will travel to Richardson, Texas Friday, October 20th to take on UT Dallas with a start time of 6:00 PM.
