ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University football team suffered a 45-21 upset at McMurry University Saturday afternoon in conference action.
The Yellow Jackets lost the turnover battle throwing one interception and fumbling the ball twice. The War Hawks sacked Howard Payne three times without committing a turnover in the game.
HPU's
Landon McKinney was 31 of 50 passing for 344 yards, three TDs and one interception.
Jordan Carroll led all receivers with nine catches for 119 yards and one touchdown.
KJ Kelley led the HPU defense with seven tackles followed by
KD Bookman with six.
The Yellow Jackets offense had 399 yards of total offense, 344 in the air, and 55 yards on the ground. McMurry ended with 386 yards of total offense, 124 on the ground and 262 yards passing.

Howard Payne is now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in American Southwest Conference play. McMurry improves to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in league action. The Yellow Jackets will play at home next week versus Texas Lutheran University. It will be a 1:00 pm kickoff at Gordon Wood Stadium.
