HPU's
Landon McKinney threw for three touchdowns and broke the HPU record for TD passes in a career, now with 85. The previous HPU record for TD passes in a career was 84 by Scott Lincher (1991-1994). In the game, McKinney was 34 of 45 passing for 450 yards and three TDs, and one interception.
The Jackets had two receivers with over 100 yards.
Deon Collins had eight catches for 118 yards and a TD, and
Gus Charles grabbed four passes for 105 yards and one TD.
Casey Dufner had three catches for 92 yards and a TD with
Jordan Carroll adding seven catches for 89 yards.
HPU's KJ Kelley led all tacklers with 17 (10 solo).
Jacob Korrodi followed with 13 tackles.
Peyton Lowe added seven and
KC Cornelious had five with one interception.
Tied at 24-24 late in the game, Texas Luthern scored and went ahead 27-24 on a 45-yard field goal with 3:00 minutes left to play. The Jackets put together a nine play 83-yard drive scoring on a 6-yard McKinney pass to
Gus Charles to give HPU a 31-27 lead with just 36 seconds left in the game.

Howard Payne is now 6-2 overall and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference action. Texas Lutheran stands at 1-7 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Yellow Jackets will be on the road next week in Alpine, Texas at Sul Ross State University. It will be a 1:00 pm kickoff.
