KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Howard Payne University volleyball team lost to the Schreiner Mountaineers 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-21, 10-15) Wednesday on the road at Stephens Family Arena.
The non-conference loss moved Howard Payne to 11-12 on the season.
The Lady Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 13 kills and 18 digs on the day. Brooke O'Neal also added 15 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Jayden Harrison chipped in with 20 digs to go with two blocks from Allison Layton.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Jackets fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-22. Schreiner never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Mountaineers took control.
SET 2 | Howard Payne tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-18 second-set win. The Lady Jackets grabbed control of the set lead early on at 2-1 and never looked back. Howard Payne led by as many as 11 points at 19-8 before finishing off the set, collecting 16 kills along the way.
SET 3 | Schreiner went up 2-1 after defeating the Lady Jackets in set three. The Lady Jackets dropped the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set 25-17.
SET 4 | Howard Payne then responded to secure the fourth set 25-21 to force a fifth set. The Lady Jackets took the lead for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Lady Jackets took over in the second half of the stanza. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
SET 5 | Howard Payne came up short in a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but dropping the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-10, to fall in the match. The Lady Jackets lost the first point and never took the lead.
The Lady Jackets will be back at home Thursday, November 2nd as they take on Concordia (TX) at the historic Brownwood Coliseum in what will be HPU's final game of the season. Howard Payne will celebrate senior night with two players, Riley Brittain and Fabianna Bennett graduating.
