WAXAHACHIE, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team traveled to Waxahachie, Texas in a 74-39 non-conference loss versus Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Friday, December 29
th.
 
SAGU jumped on the Lady Jackets right off the bat as they outscored HPU 23-4 within the first ten minutes of action. Howard Payne struggled holding onto the ball, turning it over 22 times in the first half. The Lady Jackets would head into the break trailing SAGU 46-11.
 
HPU made an extensive effort to cut down on turnovers, only committing seven in the 2
nd half. The Lady Jackets outscored SAGU 17-15 in the 3
rd quarter led by eight points from 
Taysie Trejo. Despite a strong 2
nd half from HPU, SAGU would go on to win the game 74-39.
 
SAGU outrebounded the Lady Jackets 42-20, leading to 15 second chance points. HPU turned the ball over 29 times which resulted in 38 points for SAGU.
 
Howard Payne shot 32.6% (14-43) from the field while knocking down two treys as well. SAGU finished 41.9% (26-62) from the field, nailing six three-pointers.
Leading the way for the Lady Jackets was 
Taysie Trejo who posted 11 points. Following behind was 
Taliyah Bess with eight points.
For SAGU, Agar Garcia led with 21 points along with Chanie Chambers who notched 11 of her own. 
 
The Lady Jackets will look to bounce back as they will travel to Longview, Texas as they take on LeTourneau on Thursday, January 4
th with tip-off set for 5:30 PM.
