BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team posted its best second-half performance of the season in a 91-75 conference loss to Concordia University Texas Monday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne was led by
Catlyn Ward and
Trynadee Greenwell with 13 points each. Brial Neal finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. She was 10 of 11 at the free-throw line.
Asia Mitchell posted a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Brenna Welsh added 11 points off the bench.
Down by 36 points minutes into the third quarter, the Lady Jackets battled back outscoring Concordia 26-18 in the third and 28-24 in the fourth.
HPU would pull within 14 points midway through the fourth quarter powered by 58.3% shooting in the quarter.
The Lady Jackets forced 30 Tornado turnovers in the game while only committing 13 themselves.
Concordia was led by Chelsea Cogborn and Havyn Perez with 17 points each. Perez also had seven assists.
Howard Payne stands at 2-20 overall and 0-15 in American Southwest Conference action. Concordia is now 9-11 on the year and 6-8 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play next on Thursday at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. It will be a 5:30 pm start time.
