Lady Jackets Drop DH To Tigers

MARSHALL, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team fell 9-1 and 11-2 to East Texas Baptist University Friday evening in conference action.

Game One
The Lady Jackets found themselves down 7-0 after two innings but kept the Tigers scoreless over the next three frames. HPU would get its only run in the fourth on a Makayla Fuentes RBI single to right field. ETBU added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the 9-1 final.

Maddison Cason led HPU going 2-for-2 at the plate. Makayla Wesley would record a double for the Lady Jackets

Bree Cason got the loss going 2.0 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits. Sydney West threw the final 3.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits.

Game Two
Down 11-0 going into the fifth inning, the Lady Jackets scored two runs on an RBI single by Maddison Cason to round out the 11-2 final score. HPU would end the inning with the bases loaded.

Third baseman Elaine Gonzalez led HPU going 2-for-2 at the plate. 

Maddison Cason got the loss in the start for HPU allowing seven runs on three hits and walking five. Heather Wineman threw the final 1.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits.

Howard Payne is now 3-9 overall and ETBU stands at 9-1 on the year. Both teams will finish up their three-game series with a single game on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon.
