BROWNWOOD, TEXAS – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets dropped their game 17-5 in game one of the series against the East Texas Baptist University Tigers.
ETBU were the first ones on the board in the top of the fourth inning, scoring one run.
The Jackets responded quickly with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 3-1 HPU.
Seth Bowman doubled to right center bringing Will Burford home.
Taylor Griner singled to left center bringing in the second run.
Tanner Benson then doubled to left field, bringing in
Taylor Griner from first base.
The Tigers scored 12 runs total in the top of the sixth and eighth inning, putting them ahead 14-4.
Howard Payne was able to score one more run in the bottom of the eighth on a run by
Devin Smith.
Unable to come back, the final score of the game was 17-5 ETBU.
Sam Lampson led the Yellow Jackets with three hits. While HPU pitcher
Brendan Read, led with a total of three strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets are now 8-9 on the season and 3-4 in conference. Tomorrow, Saturday, March 18
th, they will take on ETBU for games two and three at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm in Don Shepard Park.
