CLEBURNE, Texas – The Howard Payne University baseball team held Austin College to just three hits in a 5-0 Yellow Jacket non-conference victory Tuesday evening at Railroader Field.

The Yellow Jackets used a four-run third inning to gain a commanding lead. A Will Burford single up the middle scored Kyle Hemenway, then a Luke Brock double to left scored Burford rounded out by a Taylor Griner single to bring home Brock.

HPU added another run in the fifth on a Seth Bowman RBI ground-rule double scoring Tanner Benson.

Seth Bowman led the Jackets at the plate going 3-for-4 with two doubles.

The Yellow Jacket pitching staff used five different pitchers allowing four total hits.

JT Howard got the no-decision for the Jackets in the start going 4.0 innings allowing no runs on two hits and striking out four. Jack Shackelford got the win in middle relief allowing no runs and no hits. Andrew Cook went two innings allowing just one hit. Nicholas Richards had two strikeouts in one inning of work. Bryson Adare threw the final frame with one strikeout.

Howard Payne is now 11-12 overall and Austin College stands at 5-17 on the year. The Yellow Jackets will play next at home this weekend versus conference opponent Hardin-Simmons University.
