ABILENE, Texas- The Howard Payne University softball team recorded 18 hits in its conference double-header at Hardin-Simmons University but fell 12-0 and 14-6 on the road Friday evening.
With the Lady Jackets posting 18 hits in the double-header, it was the Cowgirls 33 hits that proved to be the difference in the twin-bill outcome.
Game One
Howard Payne would recorded six hits as a team stranding all six runners in the game.
Alexia Perkkio and
Simonne Sanders each went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Jackets.
Bree Cason got the loss in the start for HPU allowing seven runs on eight hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Heather Wineman threw the final 2.2 innings allowing five runs on five hits in the 12-0 final in five innings.
Game Two
After a five-run first inning for Hardin-Simmons, the Lady Jackets had a huge second frame scoring six runs.
Howard Payne would not be able to muster any more runs stranding six runners in the remaining innings of the 12-6 final.
HPU'sÂ
Elaine Gonzalez had a great game at the plate going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Madison Forrester,
Alexia Perkkio, and
McKeanne Saenz all had two hits for HPU at the plate.
Syndey West got the loss in the start for HPU allowing eight runs on 11 hits in 2.1 innings of work.
Heather Wineman and
Maddison Cason each saw time in middle relief and
Bree Cason finished out the final out of the game.
The two teams will finish out their conference series on Saturday with a single game starting at 12:00 noon.
