ABILENE, Texas -- The Howard Payne University volleyball team got the job done in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-12) to take down the McMurry War Hawks Saturday (Sept. 16) on the road at Kimbrell Arena.
The conference victory improved Howard Payne's record to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in ASC action.
The Lady Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 15 kills and 17 digs on the day. Rylee Spencer also added 10 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Jaiden Albright chipped in for with 19 digs to go with nine blocks from Spencer.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Jackets persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-22 in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match.
SET 2 | Howard Payne dropped the second set 25-21 to even the match 1-1. The Lady Jackets trailed by as many as six points as McMurry grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was tied up just once before the War Hawks took over in the second half of the set.
SET 3 | HPU bounced back following the second-set loss to take set three and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Lady Jackets took the third set 25-21. Howard Payne took the lead for good at 14-13 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Yellow Jackets took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Howard Payne kept the momentum going, ending the match with a 25-12 set-four victory. The Lady Jackets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. HPU finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, 13 points, to close out the set. The Lady Jackets got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked six McMurry attacks in the stanza and capitalized on 11 McMurry attacking errors on the way to victory.
The Lady Jackets will be back at home in the Brownwood Coliseum Tuesday, September 19th taking on University of Dallas at 6:00 PM.
