BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's team fell 83-48 to Hardin-Simmons University Saturday afternoon in conference action.
HPU's
Taysie Trejo led the Lady Jackets with 12 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the free-throw line.
Tyra Oliver followed with 11 points and was 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.
Hardin-Simmons jumped out to an early advantage and led 24-8 at the end of the first quarter. 26.9% shooting from the field by Howard Payne in the game led to an 83-48 Cowgirl final in the end.
Both teams finished with 20 turnovers and Hardin-Simmons won the rebounding battle 50-36.
Hardin-Simmons was led by Madison Williams with 16 points followed by Paris Kiser with 15 points.
Howard Payne is now 6-14 overall and 2-10 in American Southwest Conference play. Hardin-Simmons stands at 17-3 overall and 9-2 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play next on Thursday, Feb. 1st at Concordia University Texas in Austin, Texas at 5:30 pm.
