BROWNWOOD, Texas --The Howard Payne volleyball team took down the Texas-Dallas Comets 3-2 (20-25, 25-22, 22-25, 27-25, 15-9) Friday at home at Brownwood Coliseum.
The out-of-conference win improved Howard Payne's overall record to 9-6 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 18 kills and 19 digs on the day. Tara Bennett also added 13 kills to help the offense.Jolee Van Dyke also pitched in with six in the contest. On the defensive end, Kassidy Johnson chipped in for with 23 digs to go with six blocks from Rylee McAlexander.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets found themselves in an early deficit, dropping the first set 25-20. Texas-Dallas grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that was tied up five times before the Comets took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Howard Payne responded to pick up a 25-22 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. The Yellow Jackets never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Yellow Jackets took over in the second half of the stanza. The Howard Payne offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Howard Payne lost the third set, putting the Yellow Jackets in a 2-1 deficit. The Yellow Jackets fell in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-22 in a set that featured three lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 4 | Howard Payne then responded to secure set four 27-25 to force a fifth set. The Yellow Jackets seized the set win despite trailing by eight points at 19-11 before fighting back to claim victory. Howard Payne grabbed the lead at 26-25 and held on the rest of the way., totaling 18 kills along the way.
SET 5 | Down two sets to one, Howard Payne fought back to win the final two sets, culminating in a 15-9 fifth-set victory, to take the match 3-2. The Yellow Jackets led from the opening point on in the fifth set to secure the victory. Howard Payne opened up as much as a seven point lead at 8-1 before closing out the set. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with six aces in the final set.
The Lady Jackets will be in action at home tomorrow, October 12th, at 1 P.M. The opponent will be UMHB.
