LONGVIEW, Texas --The Howard Payne volleyball team showed impressive determination in a five set win over the LeTourneau Yellow Jackets Friday on the road at Solheim Arena.
The victory boosted the Yellow Jackets' record to 11-9 overall and 1-6 in ASC action.
The Yellow Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 13 kills and 19 digs on the day. Tara Bennett also added 17 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kassidy Johnson chipped in for with 16 digs to go with three blocks from Rylee McAlexander.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets opened up an early one set to none lead, winning a tight first set 25-23. Howard Payne grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that featured nine ties and five lead changes. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Howard Payne dropped set two 25-19 to tie the match 1-1. The Yellow Jackets dropped the first point and never took the lead before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Howard Payne then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn a 25-16 victory. Howard Payne opened up as much as a nine point lead at 23-14 before closing out the set.
SET 4 | Howard Payne couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Yellow Jackets forced a fifth set with a 25-17 victory. The Yellow Jackets trailed by as many as eight points as LeTourneau grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 and Howard Payne wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up seven times before the Yellow Jackets took over.
SET 5 | Howard Payne and LeTourneau went back and forth all game, trading set wins until the Yellow Jackets took set five 16-14 and the match. The Yellow Jackets earned a set-five victory thanks to a solid showing on the attacking end. Howard Payne put together a .316 attack percentage with eight kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands two times, the Yellow Jackets took control for good at 14-13 and rode that advantage to victory.
The Lady Jackets will face ETBU at 11 am in Marshall, Texas this Saturday, 10-26-24.
