SHERMAN, TEXAS --The Howard Payne volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-16, 25-17) against the University of Dallas Crusaders and dropped a 0-3 decision to Austin College Saturday at home at Hughey Gym.

The non-conference victory over UDallas 3-0 and the loss 0-3 to Austin College, the Lady Jackets' overall record standing at 13-11 on the season.

Univ. of Dallas Match
The Yellow Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 11 kills and 11 digs on the day. Tara Bennett also added 10 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kassidy Johnson chipped in for with 12 digs to go with zero blocks from Team.

SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets grabbed control of the set-one lead at 6-5 and never trailed to win 25-14. Howard Payne opened up its biggest lead, 11 points, to close out the set, collecting 15 kills along the way.

SET 2 | Howard Payne built on a set-one win by earning a 25-16 victory in set two. The Yellow Jackets led from the first point on in the set to earn the victory. Howard Payne opened its biggest lead of the stanza, nine points, to finish off the set. The Yellow Jackets hit .306 over the course of the set.

SET 3 | Howard Payne took the third set to finish off the match. The Yellow Jackets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-17 victory. Howard Payne opened up as much as a 12 point lead at 16-4 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills in the process. The Howard Payne offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

Austin College Match

In the Lady Jackets second match of the day, Howard Payne fell in three sets 3-0(19-25, 18-25, 17-25).

Tara Bennett finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Yellow Jackets attack. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Makenzie Weddel had 17 and Kassidy Johnson had 16.

SET 2 | Howard Payne then lost set two 25-18 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Howard Payne trailed by as many as seven points as Austin grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was tied up five times before the Kangaroos took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Howard Payne was not able to win set three and was swept by Austin. The Yellow Jackets fell in a tough set 25-17. Howard Payne trailed by as many as 12 points as Austin grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Kangaroos took over the lead.

Howard Payne will finish up the regular season on Friday at home versus McMurry University.
