SHREVEPORT, LA --The Howard Payne volleyball team started the season 2-0 with wins over Louisiana Christian and Millsaps College Friday at Centenary College's Gold Dome.
LOUISIANA CHRISTIAN GAME
The Yellow Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 16 kills and 17 digs on the day. Tara Bennett also added 13 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Kassidy Johnson chipped in for with 23 digs to go with two blocks from Brooke O'Neal.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-19. Howard Payne trailed by as many as eight points as grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was tied up three times before the took control.
SET 2 | Howard Payne fired back from a first-set loss to take the second set 25-17, tying the match at one set apiece. The Yellow Jackets grabbed the set powered by a solid performance on the attacking side. Howard Payne put together a .341 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set win. The Yellow Jackets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
SET 3 | Howard Payne won again in the third set to make it a 2-1 match. The Yellow Jackets took the set 25-16 thanks to a solid performance on the attacking end. Howard Payne registered a .382 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set win. The Yellow Jackets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Howard Payne offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Howard Payne earned a match win with a 25-17 fourth-set victory, winning their third straight set. A strong performance on the attacking end led the Yellow Jackets to victory in the set. Howard Payne put together a .343 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set win. The Yellow Jackets opened up a 23-13 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
MILLSAPS GAME
The Yellow Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 13 kills and 18 digs on the day. Madai Suarez also added six kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Emilee Casey chipped in for with 21 digs to go with two blocks from Gracie Dixon.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets took control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-21. Howard Payne led by as many as four points at 11-7 before closing out the set, totaling 17 kills in the process.
SET 2 | Howard Payne won the second set 25-17 to swiftly take a 2-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that showcased two lead changes before Howard Payne took over the lead.
SET 3 | Howard Payne took set three to earn a victory by sweep. The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good at 24-23 in a set that featured 11 ties and five lead changes. They then carried that lead to a 25-23 set win.
Lady Jackets will finish up the tournament at Centenary College on Saturday against host Centenary at 9:00 am.
