AUSTIN, Texas -- The Howard Payne volleyball team fell to the Concordia Tornados in both games this evening.
In game one, the Lady Jackets fell in four sets (15-25, 17-25, 25-20, 23-25) Friday on the road at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Yellow Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 10 kills and 11 digs on the day. Tara Bennett also added 13 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Addison Roden chipped in for with 11 digs to go with two blocks from Weddel.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-15. Howard Payne trailed by as many as 11 points as Concordia (TX) grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was notted up three times before the Tornados took control.
SET 2 | A 25-17 set-two loss put Howard Payne in a 2-0 hole in the match. Howard Payne trailed by as many as nine points as Concordia (TX) grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was tied up two times before the Tornados took over the lead.
SET 3 | Howard Payne rallied back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in the third stanza. The Yellow Jackets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-20 victory. Howard Payne opened up as much as a six point lead at 24-18 before finishing off the set. Howard Payne's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Concordia (TX) attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Concordia (TX) attacking errors on the way to victory.
SET 4 | Howard Payne couldn't build off the set-three victory and fell in set four 25-23 to drop the match. The Yellow Jackets fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 14 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than three points along the way.
In game two, Howard Payne lost in five sets (22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-16, 9-15)
The two non-conference losses dropped Howard Payne to 5-3 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets offense was paced by Tara Bennett, who finished with 14 kills on the day. Gracie Dixon added 10 and Brylee Awbrey chipped in with 10 as part of balanced Howard Payne attack. Defensively, had five players reach double figures in digs, highlighted by Emilee Casey's 21, 16 from Jolee Van Dyke, and 13 more from Jayden Harrison.

SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets rallied from an eight-point 17-9 deficit, but Concordia (TX) hung on to win the first set 25-22.
SET 2 | Howard Payne dropped set two 25-18, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. The Yellow Jackets lost set two despite a solid performance on the attacking side. Howard Payne registered a .344 attack percentage with 12 kills in the set loss.
SET 3 | Howard Payne rallied back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in the third stanza. The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good at 24-23 in a set that showcased four lead changes before Howard Payne took over in the second half of the stanza. They then carried that lead to a 25-23 set win. The Yellow Jackets racked up 17 kills over the course of the set. The Howard Payne offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Howard Payne continued their comeback, winning the fourth set 25-16 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. The Yellow Jackets grabbed control of the set at 4-3 and held the lead the rest of the way. Howard Payne led by as many as 11 points at 23-12 before closing out the stanza. Howard Payne also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set. Howard Payne got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Concordia (TX) attacks in the stanza.
SET 5 | Howard Payne lost the first two sets, but rallied to even it at two sets apiece before falling 15-9 in the final set. The Yellow Jackets dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way.
