BROWNWOOD, Texas --L. Prestage put together a stellar showing at the plate Saturday, hitting two home runs to help power the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets past the Lyon Scots 5-4.
B. Chambers (1-1) started on the mound and picked up the win for Howard Payne (1-3). The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing three walks and striking out seven.
Prestage went 2-for-3 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with two RBIs. J. Garza added to Prestage's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI along with one walk. W. Burford also helped out for the Yellow Jackets, going 3-for-4 with two doubles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Prestage put Howard Payne on the board with a one-out solo home run off P. Babcock.
The game remained tied until the fifth inning, when the Yellow Jackets got going again on offense. Howard Payne plated two runs off of Lyon pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Garza, which brought the Yellow Jackets lead to 3-1.
Howard Payne kept Lyon without a run before building their lead to 4-1 the following inning.
The Scots gained ground, closing the gap to 4-2 until Howard Payne added some insurance in the eighth. The Yellow Jackets scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Garza, bringing the score to 5-2 in favor of Howard Payne. Lyon put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Yellow Jackets still held on for the 5-4 win.
