BROWNWOOD, Texas --The Howard Payne women's basketball team got a 24-point showing from the bench, but fell 70-43 to the East Texas Baptist Tigers at home Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets (4-18, 0-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Kaley Nicholson, who had 11 points and six rebounds. Kate Buchanan added 10 points and Tatum Walker chipped in as well with 10 points off of the bench.

The Howard Payne offense was impressive from beyond the arc, knocking down 10 threes on 30 attempts. Walker hit three treys for the Yellow Jackets in the contest.

The Howard Payne defense held East Texas Baptist shooters to just 36 percent from the field.

How It Happened

Howard Payne struggled out of the gate, falling behind 24-3 at the end of the first quarter.

The Yellow Jackets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 47-13 halftime deficit.

East Texas Baptist continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 57-18 advantage before Howard Payne went on a 13-0 run to trim its deficit to 57-31 with 1:10 to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Howard Payne knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 18 total points.

Howard Payne could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 70-43. Howard Payne fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 12 points.
