BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University football program announced today the addition of John Eastman as the Yellow Jackets' new offensive line coach.
A veteran head coach and coordinator from East Texas, John Eastman comes to Howard Payne after serving as the offensive line coach at West Rusk High School in New London, Texas.
"I am extremely excited to announce the hiring of long-time Texas high school football coach John Eastman as the newest hire for Yellow Jacket Football," said head football coach Coby Gipson. "Coach Eastman brings in a wealth of experience from 12 years as a head football coach/AD, and years of experience as a coordinator."
In over 31 years of coaching, Coach Eastman has had teams in the State Finalist in 2004, the State Quarterfinals in 2000 and 2010, the State Regionals in 2001 and 2003, and the Area Finals in 2006, 2019, and 2021. The teams he has helped lead have made the playoffs in 20 out of 31 years of coaching.
His experience as a head coach, defensive coordinator, and recruiting connections in East Texas will prove valuable for the Howard Payne football program.
Coach Gipson added, "He will be extremely valuable in mentoring coaches, mentoring our offensive line, and continuing a pipeline of successful recruiting in East Texas. This area has produced multiple all-conference players in recent years at HPU like Landon McKinney, Jake Parker, Jimmie Jakubowski, and Duntayvion Gross."
Coach Eastman served as a THSCA UIL Advisory Board member from 2016-2019 and was named the East Texas Athletic Director of the Year in 2021.
