Howard Payne Beach Volleyball Secures First Win in Program History

A First to Remember: Howard Payne Claims Program’s Inaugural Win

This weekend at the ETBU Tiger Invite in Marshall, Texas, the Lady Jackets made history. After a tough start to the season, Howard Payne secured its first team win in program history, marking a huge step forward for the team and something that will not be forgotten.

It was a two-day tournament, and the competition was tough from the start. On day one, the Lady Jackets faced East Texas Baptist and Texas A&M University–Texarkana. Against ETBU, Howard Payne fell 4-1, but Addi Roden and Bailey Schievelbein picked up a strong win, 21-18 and 21-14. They played with control and confidence the whole match. Later, against Texarkana, the team fell 5-0, but there were still competitive moments, including a close three-set battle from Halie Coon and Ashley Quizon that came down to the final points.

Day two is where things started to shift.

After continuing to compete against Huntingdon College, the Lady Jackets carried that momentum into their final match against Concordia University. That's when everything came together. Howard Payne earned wins across multiple pairs, showing consistency and confidence from start to finish. Halie Coon and Ashley Quizon secured a big straight-set win, 23-21 and 21-17, setting the tone early. Other pairs stepped up as well, finishing their matches strong and helping lock in the historic team win.

This win meant even more because of how the weekend started. The team stayed together, kept competing, and didn't let early losses affect their energy. It showed real growth and toughness from a young program.

For Howard Payne, this is a major step forward. The Lady Jackets are continuing to improve every time they step on the sand, and this first team win is just the beginning of what's ahead.
