On April 1 and 2, the Lady Jackets competed at the UMHB Easter EGGstravaganza, taking on some strong teams and continuing to build as a program. It was a tough two days, but the team kept competing and finished with a big win.Â
On April 1, Howard Payne faced Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia University. Against UMHB, the Lady Jackets fell 5-0, but still kept fighting through every set. Addi Roden and Bailey Schievelbein stayed aggressive in their match and kept working for points, showing effort even against a strong pair. The team stayed locked in across all courts and didn't back down.Â
Later that day, everything came together against Concordia. The Lady Jackets stepped up and dominated, sweeping Concordia 5-0. Every pair handled their business and played with confidence from start to finish. It was a complete team win and showed how much the team has grown. Wins like that don't happen without everyone doing their part.Â
On April 2, Howard Payne took on Texas Wesleyan and Wayland Baptist. Against Wesleyan, the Lady Jackets fell 5-0, but there were still competitive moments. Samantha Torres and Emilee Casey battled in their match and kept pushing through long rallies, showing effort the whole time. With the win, The Jackets earned the very first sweep in program history.Â
To close out the tournament, the Lady Jackets faced Wayland Baptist and fell 4-1, but picked up a strong win. Baylee Burns and Ashlyn Kelly earned the team's point with a solid straight-set victory, playing confident and finishing their match strong.Â
Overall, it was a good weekend for growth. The Lady Jackets kept competing, stayed together, and showed improvement each match. Ending the first day with a 5-0 sweep was definitely a highlight and shows what this team is capable of moving forward.Â
