Howard Payne Secures Podium Finish at Conference Tournament

Yellow Jackets Finish Third at ASC Championships Behind Balanced Lineup

The Howard Payne University men's golf team wrapped up its season with a third-place finish at the ASC Men's Golf Championship, held at White Bluff Golf Resort and hosted by University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Across three rounds, the Yellow Jackets carded team scores of 327, 307, and 322 to finish with a 956 total, holding steady in third place throughout much of the tournament field.

Howard Payne opened the championship in third after a 327 on day one, navigating tough weather conditions that challenged the entire field. The Jackets found their rhythm in round two, posting a 307 to keep pace in the middle of the leaderboard, before closing with a 322 in the final round.

While University of Mary Hardin-Baylor pulled away for the team title and Hardin-Simmons University secured second, Howard Payne maintained separation from the rest of the field to lock in the third-place finish.

Individually, the Yellow Jackets saw consistent efforts across the lineup over all three rounds. Scores across the roster reflected steady play, particularly during the second round surge, where multiple golfers posted their strongest numbers of the tournament to keep the team in contention entering the final day.

The final round proved to be a grind, with scoring conditions tightening across the course, but Howard Payne battled through to secure its position and close out the championship on solid footing.

Head Coach Morgan Lucas reflected on the group's effort following the tournament:
"We competed the right way all week. This group stayed steady, especially in that second round when we needed it most. I'm proud of how they handled the course and the moment. It's a strong step forward for our program."

With the ASC Championships marking the conclusion of the season, the Yellow Jackets leave Whitney with momentum built on resilience, depth, and a lineup that showed flashes of its potential across all three days.
