HPU’s Daylan Bower Lands Pro Contract

MARYSVILLE, California – Former Howard Payne University baseball pitcher Daylan Bower inked a deal Friday to play in the MLB-partnered Pioneer League for the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds.

The HPU baseball alum joins the professional ranks after a successful 2026 campaign in the Pecos League with the Alpine Cowboys. A consistent reliever for the Cowboys, Bower logged a 5.28 ERA while recording 23 strikeouts in 15.1 innings pitched. His production reached a career high in his last three appearances, striking out eight hitters without conceding a hit.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Daylan, one that he has worked extremely hard for," said head baseball coach Stephen Lynn. "We're excited for him as he continues his professional career."

A transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma State, Bower joined the Jackets in 2025. The junior hit the ground running for HPU, striking out nine in five innings against Lyon College to earn ASC Pitcher of the Week honors after just his second start

After one season with HPU, Bower's sights set on the independent Pecos League, splitting time with the Roswell Invaders and the Tucson Saguaros. Bower pitched a combined 19.1 innings paired with a total of 17 strikeouts, securing himself as a reliable arm within the league.
