The Howard Payne University Lady Jackets opened their season with a 4-0 win over Austin College on Tuesday night at the Dr. Jack R. Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex. The Lady Jackets tested out Austin College's goalkeepers, Amanda Zyla and Kieran McFarland, out early – firing two shots in the opening 15 minutes.
HPU finally found a breakthrough after
Kenadie Avants opened the scoring with a goal off of a pass from
Dakota McKee in the 44
th minute.
At the start of the second half, the Lady Jackets came out just like they did to start the game, forcing Austin College's goalkeeper, Kieran McFarland, to make two saves in the first seven minutes.
Sarah Krusing doubled the lead for the Lady Jackets on a pass from
Abbie Wetzel in the 65
th minute. Krusing secured her brace on an assist by
Madison LaDart in the 70
th minute, extending the Lady Jacket's lead to 3-0.
Goalkeepers
Landry Combs and
Cadence Tischler made four combined saves, which included Tischler keeping the clean sheet alive when she saved a penalty from Austin College's Myles McGaha in the 82nd minute.
LaDart recorded her second assist of the night, and
Dakota McKee grabbed a goal for herself to round out the scoring for Howard Payne.
