LONGVIEW, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the young season Thursday evening, using a second-half goal from freshman Kenzie Cameron to earn a 1-0 victory over LeTourneau University at LETU Soccer Field.

After a scoreless first half, Cameron slotted home the breakthrough in the 71st minute, scoring the match's lone goal on a free kick at the 70:08 mark. The tally was Cameron's first goal of her career and proved to be the game-winner.

The Lady Jackets improved to 2-0 with their second consecutive shutout to open the season.

Howard Payne was outshot by LeTourneau 12-8, but the Yellow Jacket defense held firm throughout the contest. Goalkeeper Landry Combs made three saves in the opening half before seeing Cadence Tischler enter after halftime to add three more stops and complete the combined shutout.

"The girls gutted out a tough win against a good opponent," said head coach Brandon Badgeley. "I'm proud of them for sticking through it, and we had a few players that stepped up and played huge for us tonight."

LETU threatened several times in the second half, including a shot by Sarah Wyatt that struck the crossbar just moments before Cameron's goal. Wyatt led all players with six shots and three shots on goal.

Howard Payne generated six shots on frame and held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Cameron paced the Yellow Jacket attack with four shots, including three on goal. Madelynn Harry, Kenadie Avants and Dakota McKee each added a shot on target.

LeTourneau goalkeeper Kinsey Fulks recorded five saves in the loss.
