BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University men's soccer will look to continue its momentum picked up in Pennsylvania in their home opener against the University of Saint Thomas (TX) at the Citizens National Bank Field on Saturday, September 19 at 7:00 PM.
ROAD WARRIORS
HPU comes into this game with a record of 2-2 after starting its first four games of the season on the road. The Yellow Jackets come into this match off the back of two wins in its road trip to Pennsylvania with wins over Penn State Berks and Penn State Brandywine.
Forward Connor Parker and Defender Josh Montanez both won the ASC men's soccer player of the week honors after the wins in Pennsylvania. Parker, Francisco Perez and Kolby Lara spearheaded the Yellow Jackets attack in Pennsylvania with six goals and four assists between them. Montanez was apart of a defensive back line that allowed HPU to put up a 9-1 goal difference in the two games.
SCOUTING REPORT
The University of Saint Thomas men's soccer comes into this matchup with a record of 2-2, losing their last game to Texas A&M Victoria 3-1. Diego Guerra is their leading scorer with three goals scored in four appearances for the Celts.
Max Rodriguez and Luis Hernandez have split time in goal. Rodriguez has started three games, made seven saves and allowed five goals. Hernandez started in one of the two games he played. He has made three saves and conceded three goals.
This is the third appearance all time between the Yellow Jackets and the Celts, with the Celts winning the other two appearances. However, this the first time the Celts will be playing the Yellow Jackets away from home.
