Biography

2023: Appearing in 12 games for HPU, Gifford recorded three hits and scored four runs. He was an Academic All-Conference selection as well.

2022: An All-Conference Honorable Mention, Gifford ended the season with a .302 batting average with 27 runs and 21 RBI's. He recorded 71 put outs and 66 assists on the year. He was an Academic All-Conference selection as well.

2021: Appearing in 31 games for the Yellow Jackets, Derek recorded 30 hits in 112 at-bats with 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 26 RBI. He also recorded 13 runs and was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. As a fielder, he registered 172 catches, 145 putouts, and 24 assists. 

2020: Saw action in 11 games and started six of them, Derek recorded 10 hits and six RBIs in 30 at bats.  Among those were two doubles and one triple.  As a fielder, he registered 27 catches, 14 putouts and 10 assists.

High School: Derek played four years of varsity baseball for Stephenville High School in Stephenville, Texas. Derek was awarded First Team All-District and first team Academic All-State.
