Jackets Win Series Opener With MC

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team scored six runs in the seventh and eighth innings to post a 6-3 come from behind win over visiting Mississippi College Friday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

Down 0-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, with the bases loaded, HPU's Houston Holmes was hit by a pitch to score CJ Schumann. John Elmore would then reach on a walk to score Ben Butler. Later, with two outs, Kyle Kulcyzk would hit a 3 RBI-double to score Jake Sadler, Holmes, and Elmore and give the Jackets a 5-3 lead.

In the eighth, Sam Dollahite led off with a double. Ryan Klose then doubled to left field to score Dollahite and improve HPU's lead to 6-3.

Kulcyzk was 1-for-1 with three RBIs and Sadler finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Corey Howie recorded the win after starting on the mound for HPU. Howie allowed three runs off seven hits, while walking one batter and recording four strikeouts in 8 complete innings. Ben Butler pitched the final inning and allowed only one hit.

Howard Payne is now 9-4 on the season and will continue their series with Mississippi College on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12pm at Don Shepard Park.
