After Southwestern had tied the game at 74-74 with 14 seconds remaining, Howard Payne's
Danyel Bradley hit a layup as time expired to give the Lady Jackets the 76-74 victory. Bradley finished the game tying her career high in scoring with 34.
The Lady Jackets started the game slow falling behind 7-0 in the opening minutes. Howard Payne would chip award at the Southwestern lead and gained a slight 39-37 advantage on a jumper by
Sarahi Castillo with 40 seconds remaining in the first half.
To start the second, Howard Payne built on its advantage and lea by as much as eight, 58-50 with 13:02 remaining in the game. Southwestern battled back and took a 72-70 lead with 3:01 left. It was a jumper by
Kalin Hanna, and free-throws and the game-winning layup Bradley that secured the win for the Lady Jackets in the closing minutes.
Bradley had 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals to go along with her 34 points, She was also 14 for 15 from the free-throw line.
Sarah Van Remmen followed with 16 points and a game high 14 rebounds.
Corbin Holmes finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Southwestern was led by Jordan Owens with a game high 36 points along with eight rebounds. Olivia Podaras added 12 points.
Howard Payne improves to 2-1 overall and Southwestern falls to 1-3 overall with the loss. The Lady Jackets will play Schreiner University on Sunday at noon. Howard Payne defeated Schreiner 59-48 in Brownwood last week.
