SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Howard Payne women's basketball team was outscored by 55 points, 95-40, by NCAA Division I University of Texas San Antonio in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon.
Howard Payne struggled to find its rhythm in the first half as they shot 21 percent (5-24) from the field. After HPU scored its first basket within 43 seconds of play, UTSA went on a 14-0 run to lead 17-2.
UTSA continued to extend its lead through the half and led by as many as 28 with 3:53 remaining on the clock in the first half.
Out of the intermission, the Roadrunners continued strong shooting 67 percent (20-30) from the field.
Howard Payne responded halfway through the second with a 6-0 run to bring the deficit down to 45 points at the 8:00 mark, 76-31.

Sarah Van Remmen led the Lady Jackets with 11 points, five boards, three assists and a pair of steals.
Danyel Bradley added eight points and
Corbin Holmes added seven off th bench.
Kalin Hanna had a game high four blocks.
Junior Akunna Elonu led all scorers with 17 points, to go with three rebounds and three steals.
Howard Payne will open their 2014-15 regular season on Monday, November 17th at NCAA D-I Abilene Christian University.
